the deck

One of the best things about our apartment is the deck. It's a decent size, with plenty of room for plants and a nice table and chairs. We have been taking our breakfasts out here most mornings. Lovely.

I decided to try for some end of season lettuce. Despite a colony of ants attempt to steal all the seeds after I planted them, the lettuce is sprouting.

All was going so well, except one day, we noticed that the neighborhood cats/raccoons/very agile dogs were visiting us at night and relieving themselves on our deck. Ack. The cats of Toronto seem to view us as the perfect litter box. We did some research online about dissuading cats and decided to try cardboard soaked in ammonia. So far, so good.

Hello Vancouver!

We're back in TO, in our lovely new apartment. The sun is shining, the bikes are gliding. We're eating way too good. Meals are bright, fresh-herb, olive oil extravaganzas. Hope you're all well.
